Zimbabwe to open first traditional Chinese medicine clinic
HARARE (Xinhua) – Preparations for the opening of Zimbabwe’s first traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and acupuncture clinic in the country’s largest referral hospital are at an advanced stage, with all medical equipment already in place.
Speaking on a media tour of the Parirenyatwa Hospital Group clinic in Harare on Wednesday, Jiang Zhichao, founder and director of Zimbabwe-China TCM and Acupuncture Center said the facility has already made all the preparations and will be open to the public before the end. of this month.
“It started with the training of 15 local medical staff and they will begin formal treatment of their patients, including local patients,” he said.
The center will also house Zimbabwe’s largest TCM training school and research center.
“In addition to diagnosing and treating patients, the Zimbabwe Ministry of Health and China-Zimbabwe MTC have agreed to make the center the largest Chinese medicine training school in Zimbabwe,” he said.
Jiang said TCM has played a vital role in China’s fight against COVID-19, adding that including TCM knowledge in Zimbabwe’s medical practice would be of practical importance.
“Zimbabwe has a good medical system. If TCM technology can be fully introduced and promoted in Zimbabwe, I believe it will help strengthen Zimbabwe’s fight against COVID-19 and provide future health services to the Zimbabwean people, ”Jiang said.
The first patient to receive an acupuncture treatment procedure at the clinic, Marlon Mpundu, expressed confidence in TCM.
“It was the first time that I had followed this treatment. I had a problem with my neck, but after this treatment I now feel good, ”said Mpundu.
The establishment of the TCM center follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding between China and Zimbabwe on cooperation in the field of TCM and acupuncture.
China recently stepped up efforts to strengthen Zimbabwe’s health system and step up its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic by providing various donated medical supplies.
