Traditional Chinese Medicine Tourism and Health Care Base Rise in Taihang Mountains (North China)

Deep in the Taihang Mountains in northern China, a group of workers are busy planting authentic local traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) in the TCM valley of Bian Que, the largest TCM planting base in China. Neiqiu County, Xingtai City, Hebei Province. The valley is home to 28 varieties of TCM, covering over 6,000 mu of plantation area. A Chinese medicinal plant seed treatment workshop is also under construction in the valley. When completed, more than 100 tons of Chinese herbal medicine seeds can be produced and processed every year to meet the demand for authentic Chinese herbal medicine plantations in the surrounding areas of Taihang Mountains.

Neiqiu County, located in the central part of the Taihang Mountains, has a deep culture of TCM and abundant wild herbal medicine resources in its territory. It is recognized as the birthplace of Bian Que, a well-known TCM physician during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period (407-310 BC). It has also been ranked as the National Foundation for TCM Branding and Education. According to historical records, Pengque Mountain in Neiqiu County was Bian Que’s territory, place of medical practice and burial. The Bian Que Temple in Neiqiu, which has the longest history and the largest scale of its kind in China, is listed as a national key cultural site under protection.

On the west side of Bian Que Temple, the new Bian Que TCM “Yizu Hall” cultural tourism and health care base is primitive simplicity and magnificence, echoing the larger group of Bian sacrifice temples. That of the country. The “Yizu Hall” has an ancestral TCM room and the Bian Que TCM living room. Among them, the ancestral TCM Hall, as a popular science platform for TCM culture of Bian Que, is the only platform in China to sort, study, display, promote and inherit the TCM culture of the famous doctor.

Neiqiu County, known as the hometown of Xingtai wild jujube seeds in China, is the largest distribution center for the production, processing and sale of wild jujube seeds in the country. The processing and sale of wild jujube seeds represent more than 70% of the national market share.

Walking along the Taihang Mountains Highway to Bian Que TCM Health and Tourism Base is like stepping into a Pengque Mountain picture scroll. Surrounded by mountains and rivers, the primitive and natural architectural style and the spiritual artistic disposition of the base are integrated with nature. Staying in such a scenic place makes people relaxed and happy, providing a taste of the simple and unsophisticated slow-paced life of the Taihang Mountains.
