Immerse yourself in meditation with ecstatic dance

Ecstatic dancing is a way of totally letting the body flow with the music. In this type of dance, your body moves freely, there is no dance step or rules to follow.

Creativity, harmony and unlimited energy, this was the environment felt during the weekend of September 25-27, when Olhão hosted an ecstatic dance event, promoted by Sabino Soares, who is very committed to spreading the word about the benefits of this practice. “I deeply believe that through ecstasy and mindfulness, I bring more health and well-being to my community and to myself.”

Sabino Soares began to explain how he gave up his first love to find another. “Ecstatic dancing came into my life like a bombshell. I danced Ballroom for a few years because dancing is in my blood – I have always loved dancing. However, at one point, ballroom dancing started to get very serious (regular training, competitions, etc.) and I lost my interest ”.

Meanwhile, it is when he is invited to an ecstatic dance event in Lisbon that he first meets his new passion. It was an “incredible experience of freedom, connection and presence and… Suddenly I found myself in a site with a hundred people who were all like me, who felt the music and the beat the same way I did. I felt that I had finally returned home, to my tribe, to my family. Since then, I have never stopped.

The best part is that ecstatic dancing is for everyone because it has nothing to do with knowing how to dance. “Ecstatic dancing is not about doing the best performance to show something to myself or to others. It’s just breathing and getting into the rhythm (I’m even saying it’s not to listen with the ears, but through the pores). The body knows exactly what it needs. However, the mind is involved in everything – “Now I will do it!” or “I don’t know how to dance!” I look like an idiot! How ridiculous I must be! It’s embarassing!”

Health Benefits of Ecstatic Dancing

“Ecstatic dance brings benefits for physical health, because it moves the whole body in a completely free way, besides relieving stress on the mental level, it is a space where the participant can have an incredible experience of connecting with him. himself and with others. , which is a very important feeling for human beings, ”he said.

This is because freedom of movement will allow you to be more present, to feel more joyful and connected, and to help you get rid of anxiety and negative thoughts. Additionally, there is research “that has linked all kinds of dance to better cognition, greater mobility, improvements in heart health, better daily emotional control, and even reduced falls in the elderly and others.” , did he declare.

Two years ago in an ecstatic DJ course, Sabino Soares had the pleasure of meeting “a 70-year-old American gentleman with Parkinson’s disease who was the target of scientific research because, from the time he started participating in ecstatic dancing regularly, his symptoms abated and when I met him they were almost imperceptible, which is why he decided at 70 to become an ecstatic dance DJ.

At the moment, Sabino Soares is totally engaged in ecstatic dancing. “I am the founder of Ecstatic Dance Algarve. I am an ecstatic dance DJ and have been invited to several national and international festivals. I dance and meditate a lot at home, sometimes starting at 7am – it’s a good way to keep my mental, emotional and physical health ”.

Ecstatic Dance, founded by Gabrielle Roth, has been practiced by many cultures. In the ancient and widespread practice of shamanism, dancing and rhythmic drumming were used in spiritual practices, he said. News from Portugal.
