“So far, there have been over 100 girls who have joined our team,” said Bissan Jarrar, Ramallah City’s very first female Wushu coach, adding that the number of interns has doubled over the years. last months.

“It’s a new phenomenon that Palestinian girls would love to be a part of this unique sport,” said the 24-year-old coach.

The young woman explained that for many decades the practice of Wushu was reserved for men in the Palestinian territories, but now the situation is different.

“Contrary to what some might think, Wushu does not encourage violence. It helps players bind their minds to the muscles in order to quickly make their defiant decision,” said the coach.

“I felt so happy when I won the silver medal in the regional competition held in Lebanon,” said the coach, adding that she believed she had helped raise the reputation of Palestine by participating in such tournaments.

Batoul Abdul Wahhab, one of Bissan’s interns, said she joined the Wushu team because it is a new sport for Palestinian girls.

“It has helped me change my character and become stronger in my life,” said the 14-year-old, as she finished showing off her ability to perform Wushu in front of her peers and her trainer.

She believes that Wushu has succeeded in putting women and men on the same level, because it depends on the mind rather than just the muscles.

“The community is not just for men, but also for women,” the girl said, adding that she aspires to compete in world competitions.

“There are over 300 girls of different ages practicing Wushu in the Palestinian West Bank,” Tarik Khalifa, head of the Palestinian Wushu Kung Fu Sports Federation, told Xinhua.

Any girl can join this sport, regardless of her age and physical ability, because we can train and qualify her to become a professional player and eligible to participate in Arab and international tournaments, he said. declared.

Over the past two years, a number of girls have won gold, silver and bronze medals in different competitions, thanks to the development of training programs adopted by the federation.
