Best-selling author, health and wellness guru Deepak Chopra teaches meditation in Queens, NY

Wellness expert, New York Times bestselling author, and humanitarian Deepak Chopra led over 200 people to take the first steps toward learning meditation on Saturday, September 24 at The Royal Restaurant in Flushing Queens, New York .

Hosted by Queens Borough Chairman Donovan Richards, Queens Wellness Day was planned to encourage people to cope with the stress of two long years of pandemic isolation and uncertainty.

In an official statement, President Richards said: “What the past two years have taught us, more than anything, is that we cannot take our health for granted – not just our physical health, but also our well-being. -being mental.”

The day-long event took place at two locations, with the morning event of meditation tips by Chopra and healing tips by Queen Afua, a holistic health expert, and a health fair the afternoon sponsored by Emblem Health at the James A. Bland Playground.

Chopra guided the audience through the first steps of meditation such as deep breathing and focusing on the breaths to achieve calm and peace. Queen Afua offered wellness advice to the public.

The afternoon session included fitness classes led by Planet Fitness representatives, a self-care pavilion, food, and a community-led panel to discuss black men’s mental health.
