Shaktipat In The Night
When you first experience how spiritual energy can be transmitted it seems miraculous and makes you a quick believer in the possibilities of higher consciousness. You can experience these transmissions in a number of ways and in many spiritual/religious cultures from a prayer meeting to a Guru's darshan.I once read about a famous Guru who was an MD and a Sanskrit Scholar who had been the victim of three strokes. To me at the time this seemed unthinkable that such a high being could have strokes--there was none of the usual talk about "he didn't get sick, he just took on the karma of his students" either. In a word, like anyone else his age caught up with him and like with Ram Das, he had strokes. His condition was so bad he could hardly speak and would either write down what he needed to say, or had an interpreter, who understood his limited speech.
I was so moved by his misfortunate, and had such respect for him, that I wrote him a letter. I had read some of his books and was impressed with his wisdom and humility. To my surprise I received a reply where he thanked me for my kind words and heartfelt concern and invited me to visit him at his ashram here in the U.S.
I phoned his ashram to buy some books and when I gave my name the woman who answered the phone excitedly said, “I know you. Guruji read you letter at a Satsang! He really loved what you wrote!” To say I was flattered is an understatement. I couldn't believe it.
A week later when I got the books I was reading one of them and feeling the Guru’s energy pouring into me. Suddenly my ears began to ring and my K energy started to dance in my spine moving somewhat erratically and making me a bit uneasy. I knew I had connected with his energy and been transmitted the Nadam that was his form of meditation--much to my astonishment.
It was really intense; I wasn't used to hearing the ringing unceasingly; plus the meditation I was doing at the time only caused the K energy to become more erratic and the sound to get too loud. I phoned the ashram and found out that the Guru had gone to Florida that was about a day and a half's ride from where I was living. I felt that it was my destiny to take initiation with the Guru and knew he could straighten out the energy going wild in my spine.
Long story short, I drove to Florida. When I arrived there in the evening, he gave me a shaktipat that removed the effects of the meditation I had been using (I wrote about it in a previous post). The next morning when I was awaiting a fire ceremony initiation by him, I was sitting on a bench about 3 miles away from where he was staying. I began to feel powerful energy descending into me that kept pouring down like a mighty river of bliss. There was no doubt he was preparing me with an energetic transmission for the initiation that was to follow.
The initiation was beautiful with, according to his devotees, auspicious signs from the natural world. That afternoon I drove to my mother's home in Florida, and, while basking in the bliss of the energy transmissions and marveling over the events that let up to my meeting the Guru, the song "Wind Beneath My Wings" came on the car radio as I drove into the light of a new day.
